Significant Signs of Water Damage
Noticing signs of water damage in your home is the first step towards water damage restoration. Water damage can be caused by a number of incidents such as overflowing water sources, floods, leaks, even leaky appliances. The sooner you are able to notice the signs, the sooner you are able to put your life back together. Below are high risk areas to check in your home:
- Basement: Check the flooring of your basement for signs of water damage. Take note of any cracks in the flooring, dampness, rust, or even warped flooring – these can be signs of moisture in your basement.
- Walls: Look at all the walls and ceilings in your home for any stains. These stains can be caused by water damage due to leaky pipes inside of the wall. Other signs of water damage are walls being swollen and soft to the touch, or even cracking.
- Exterior: Make sure when checking for water damage you don’t forget your roof. Check for any damaged or missing shingles. You should also look for any standing water in your yard close to your house. A puddle could be due to gutter spouts that are not draining far enough from the house, so be sure to check around the gutter placement as well.
- Pipes: There are various pipes throughout your home that you should be checking including bathrooms, kitchen, basement, and the laundry room. Look for any leaks, water stains surrounding the areas, or even corrosion around the connectors.
After your inspection, if you notice any signs of water damage follow up by checking the area for signs of mold, mildew, pests or other secondary damage. If damage has occurred have it repaired immediately.
